Sixth Annual Save-A-Limb Ride, Walk and Festival Takes to the
Roads on October 22 at Oregon Ridge Park
Event Features Celebrity Guest Cyclists George Hincapie and
Robbie Ventura and “Survivor Fiji” Winner Earl Cole

The 2011 Save-A-Limb Ride, Walk and Festival, presented by Stryker, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies, will be held at scenic Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md., on Saturday, October 22, 2011, for a day of cycling, celebrity appearances and family fun.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Save-A-Limb Fund of Sinai Hospital’s Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO) to provide limb, hip and knee surgery to deserving patients in the United States and around the world.

The sixth annual event kicks off at 8 a.m. with a metric century (100 km) bike ride led by celebrity guests, George Hincapie, a 15-time Tour de France participant, and Robbie Ventura, a former member of the U.S. Postal Service Cycling Team. This will be followed by rides of six, 15 and 30 miles.

A special appearance will be made by Earl Cole, the winner of the 2007 edition of “Survivor Fiji,” the hit show on CBS. Cole’s experiences growing up with Perthes disease, a hip disease regularly treated at the RIAO, inspired him to lend his support to the Save-A-Limb Fund.

In addition to the bike rides, a one-mile family fun walk debuts this year. Participating in the walk are students from the Baltimore County Public School system, which is working with the Save-A-Limb Ride to encourage a healthy lifestyle for children and families.

A fitness fair and carnival featuring the latest trends in cycling and fitness, food, and games begins at 11 a.m. Fitness experts from LifeBridge Health & Fitness will be on hand to lead group-oriented exercise sessions. The fair and carnival are open to the public. The day wraps up with a special fundraising dinner and auction with Hincapie, Ventura and Cole in attendance.

Registration for the Save-A-Limb Ride is now open. Both cyclists and non-cyclists are encouraged to register. For more information, visit savealimbride.org.
